The founders of the label are three sisters, Kathrin Freier, Charlotte Tambue and Amelie Jennen-Freier. All three had already worked in the international fashion industry for several years and met in 2012 at an ashram retreat in Calabasas, a health and sports retreat near Los Angeles. They realized what they were missing: a better work-life balance. With a desire to have more time for family, friends and the things they really loved - fashion, sports, travel and culture - they decided to start KCA-LAB in 2016.
The brand name is compiled from the first names Kathrin, Charlotte and Amelie.

KCA-LAB stands for function and fashion. The three sisters are highly involved in the entire design process and apply their know-how from many years of fashion industry to the products. In addition, they test each product themselves. Distracting seams are avoided and breathable fabrics are welcome. All products are exposed to washing, shape and colour tests to ensure that the high quality is maintained even after long periods of wearing and washing.

"The issue of sustainability and the appreciation of our resources is very important to us: It is about our future in this world."

The label is committed to fairness and sustainability. The designs are developed in Germany and produced in Portugal and Turkey. Here, great importance is attached to fair wages and working conditions. CO2 is reduced due to the short shipping distances.

High standards in the production facilities

The fabrics and materials are GOTS-certified or tested to prevent harmful materials. Most fabrics are made of ECONYL®, a material that is recycled from old fishing nets or fabric remnants. It is not only environmentally friendly, but also particularly water-resistant and fast-drying. The knitting is seamless and thus avoids leftovers and waste.
Upcycling is also an integral part of the label's production. "Make new from old" is the motto. Unsold pieces or leftovers are recycled for the next collection and carefully incorporated.
In addition, KCA-LAB supports organisations such as the basketball project PJB with donations of surplus clothing. The Munich-based foundation Sternenstaub (Stardust) supports young people in the struggling Congo.
