May Bernardi learned how to create sophisticated, elegant clothes at the renowned "Institut Français de la Mode" in Paris. After graduating in 2014, she gained experience with Hussein Chalayan in London and with Bruno Pieters in Antwerp. Both are known beyond the boundaries of the fashion industry as avant-garde design icons. In 2018, May Bernardi founded her label of the same name. Here, she applies the knowledge and skills she learned.
May Bernardi, the Designer and Founder of May Bernardi Collection
In her timeless collections May Bernardi combines simplicity with avant-garde shapes, experimental design with a poetic statement. The feminine looks are dominated by strong lines and can be adapted to match any woman's body and needs. Her aesthetics are elegant and refined but raw at the same time. May Bernardi represents a diverse image of women: strong, independent and never anxious to please. At the same time her creations are soft and sensual. They are characterized by the use of innovative textures. The designer draws her inspiration from nature, but also from old myths.
"My claim to sustainability is reflected in both the design and production of my collections," says Bernardi and continues: "In design, I am interested in combining traditional techniques of textile manipulation with a modern language of form."
Perfect workmanship and high-quality materials guarantee outstanding wearability and durability.
Manufacturing the collection
May Bernardi works with natural and sustainably produced fabrics, all manufactured in Europe to avoid long transport distances. Many of the materials, especially cotton, are GOTS certified. The European suppliers are mostly vertically structured companies that carry out all the processing steps of fabric production themselves.

For the label, close cooperation with the manufacturers of the clothing is also important, says the founder: "I produce my collections as locally as possible in selected production facilities in Poland and Germany. The label deliberately works almost exclusively with women there, to support them with fair wages and good working conditions. This is how Female Empowerment works!
