From October 19th to 21st October 2018, Munich will become a green hotspot - with the first festival for green style and sustainable fashion: GREENSTYLE | MUC at Haus der Kunst.

A few of our labels will be there and look forward to seeing you. We took the opportunity for a conversation with the founder and initiator Mirjam Smend.

Since when have you been dealing with the topic of sustainability?

Sustainability in everyday life has always been an issue for us. Sustainable fashion has actually only been added later. Why? Good question - I think because I didn't think about production methods & the like for a long time. I came into contact with a research topic three years ago in the editorial department. And then there was no turning back: I started blogging, quit my job, wrote free articles for many magazines, Fashion Revolution Ambassador - and now GREENSTYLE | MUC...

Was there a key moment for that?

Suddenly everything was a bit too much for me. Too much fashion. Too many trends. Too many collections. After that "more, and more, and faster" I longed for deceleration and dedicated myself to slow fashion.

How has this topic changed your life?

Apart from the fact that I only buy what I really need, I have met incredibly inspiring people. Visionary designers, dedicated bloggers, activists, an incredible community that wants to make a difference together. #letschangethatfashiongame

What is the idea behind GREENSTYLE | MUC and what do you want to achieve?

Sustainable fashion has many aspects: from organic cotton to recycling. But an important approach is definitely more conscious and eco-fair consumption. With 35 great labels, we offer alternatives that are as good as they are stylish - it's not without reason that we chose the Haus der Kunst. And because sustainability has a lot to do with knowledge and awareness, we have an XL program with talks, panels, and more to offer. The whole program is available here.

What are your hopes for the future for the fashion industry and the customers?

Fairness, transparency, and deceleration - that is still a long way to go. But the consumer can buy consciously and eco-fair immediately.

Your hotspots in Munich?

On Saturday (20.10.) we will launch the first Green Fashion Tours Map for Munich at GREENSTYLE | MUC with 30 sustainable designers and labels - there is something for every taste. Sois Blessed in Prannerstraße is not there but it's always worth a visit.
