    Factories Furillen, Sweden

When choosing accommodation, more and more people are paying attention to what sustainable criteria the houses, in which they spend their holidays, fulfill. More and more care is being taken to ensure environmental sustainability and social commitment, and above all to ensure that hotels use nature's resources with the greatest possible care. We present eight exceptional hotels built from recycled or natural materials - from Egypt to Valais. This week’s favorite: This week favorite:

    FACTORIES FURILLEN, SWEDEN

At first glance, the hotel looks like an abandoned ruin at the end of the world. But the former limestone refinery, located directly at the sea in front of the impressive natural scenery of the island Gotland, is a masterpiece. Owner Johan Hellström has transformed the run-down building into a cool, unique design hotel. He preserved the original structure of the compound and recycled local materials such as concrete, limestone, and solid wood for the 17 rooms of the hotel. He adapted the interior to the industrial character and the colors of the surroundings: Typical Scandinavian light colors and coarse fabrics, the beds are Hästens. The ideal place for anyone looking for absolute remoteness? One of the two log cabins on the site: eight square meters, a bed, a chair, an oven. No electricity and no running water. The toilet is in a separate hut. The former canteen of the factory became the restaurant of the hotel, where only fresh and seasonal food is processed. (only bookable between 2. 7. and 11. 8., double room from approx. 240 Euro, via www.designhotels.com)
